Nadia Carrier
After completing a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics and holding diverse positions in the agricultural sector, Nadia was recruited as Executive Director of the Union des cultivateurs franco-ontariens (UCFO) in the early 2000s, a position she held until 2008. She then became an entrepreneur as co-owner of a garden center in Plantagenet, Ontario.
In the early 2010s, she began teaching on a contract basis at the University of Guelph Alfred Campus—and she has never been able to stop. She loves sharing knowledge, working with people, and contributing to the next generation of agricultural professionals. For the past ten years, she has been a full-time professor at La Cité, where she coordinates the Agricultural Techniques program in Animal Production and Field Crops.
In addition to her work as a professor at La Cité, she thrives on challenges, both physical and intellectual, and never seems to slow down: radio commentaries, podcasts, running, travel, article writing and chairing community organizations. Since 2026, she serves as the president of the Agricom newspaper, the French agricultural newspaper in Ontario.
From a teaching perspective, she actively engages students in her courses and trains them to think critically, contribute meaningfully to discussions, and succeed not only in their professional careers but also in their personal lives. She is equally skilled at teaching courses related to finance and business relationships—her area of expertise—as she is at teaching subjects related to crop production and agro-environmental practices.
For the last 10 years, as part of the Business relations course, Nadia and her students organize the AgriCité info day. This event is designed to foster connections between students and stakeholders in the agri-food industry. It features presentations, panel discussions, networking opportunities, and exhibitor booths hosted here at the college, and is open to both the public and industry professionals. The event often attracts more than 100 participants. It requires an enormous amount of work and has been a tremendous success.
For all of her accomplishments, her commitment to the agricultural community, and her outstanding teaching abilities, she is most deserving of this Award for Excellence.
